Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a complex pain disorder affecting people physically and mentally. The typical symptom is widespread spontaneously occurring pain, accompanied by various disorders such as sleeping disorder, fatigue, depression and bowels disorder. The cause is far from certain. Factors contributing to the disorder included genetic predisposition, post-trauma (physically or mentally), and inflammation diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.

Chinese medicine including acupuncture and Chinese herbs has been used to treat fibromyalgia since long time ago. Based on Chinese medicine theory, this disorder is mainly related to Qi (lack of energy or stagnation of energy), blood (deficiency or poor circulation) and kidney (Ying and Yang unbalanced in the kidney). Kidney in chinese medicine includes not only urinary system, but also genetic predisposition of human body. So a mix of herbs with acupuncture can help relieve the pain dramatically by regulating related systems inside the body.

The result form scientific research is also encouraging. A study published in the June edition of the Mayo Clinic Proceedings shows acupuncture can relieve fatigue and anxiety in fibromyalgia patients for up to seven months after the treatment.
