Ankle Pain

Ankle pain is one of the most common muscular skeleton injuries. The main cause for most people coming for acupuncture is sprain. The patients twist their ankle during some sports or by stepping on some uneven ground thereby stretching the ligaments that provide stability for the ankle joint. A strong pain comes up immediately after injury, with swelling overthe area due to the injured blood vessel leading fluid into the tissue around. Some patients came to my clinic immediately after injury. At this stage, I usually don’t recommend acupuncturetreatment. Ice, rest and limiting amount of walking are the first priority because these measures can help reducing the fluid retention at the ankle area. Acupuncture is not a necessary treatment. In mild cases, a patient might get recovered after a week rest without any other treatment. However, if the pain persists afterwards, an acupuncture treatment might be a good option to help relieve the pain and fasten its recovery.

Tendonitis in the ankle joint is not rare. It is usually related to weakness of lower limb muscles, such as gastrocnemius and peritoneal. An appropriate acupuncture treatment can help strengthen the muscles and relieve the pain.
